Portfolio

Once you have completed all texts, it's time to choose the five you think are your best ones and to create a portfolio. The portfolio will be printed (black/white) but carefully follow the instructions before you start printing anything! Pictures and illustrations are welcome! Note! Missing assignments 11 or 12?

Assignments 11 and 12 were done during class, so you cannot do them if you were absent. If you missed one them, choose one of the following two assignments. If you missed both, write both. MOVIE SCRIPT First study a section of the script for the film  Good Will Hunting  and watch how it was created on screen. Then continue writing the script yourself for the two scenes that we watch together in class. Try to include as many details as you can, particularly as to what happens in addition to the dialogue: Setting, location Clothing Atmosphere Pauses Non-verbal communication (You don't need to include the song lyrics.) Pit stop - Feedback 2

FEEDBACK Today's assignment is not a new text of your own. Instead, you are giving feedback on another student's text. Feedback is an essential part of becoming a better writer. Writing is a process, in which asking for and receiving feedback is very important. What, then, is useful feedback? Is it something like 'this was really good', 'that was terrible' or 'I don't know how it could be improved'? No. That's lazy feedback. If you want to give good feedback, you need to read the text carefully and explain why you think something does or doesn't work. That will show the writer that you have actually given thought to how their text could be improved, and they can decide whether they agree and want to make the suggested changes. TRANSLATING A SONG Listen to the song by Damien Rice and look at the two Finnish translations of the song (a handout). Then read the list of translation principles and decide which ones apply to these translations. Translate a Finnish song of your choice into English.  Consider the translation principles and briefly explain which ones you used in your translation. Finally, add a link to a video of the song in your post.
